Counseling is a safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings, patterns in behavior, future hopes and goals, and get a better understanding of who you are and how you can work to be your best self. We can explore together what life is like for you and the things you may want to better understand or change. Counseling is your time and your space to talk about the things you want to talk about.
Every one can benefit from having the support of counseling! When deciding to start counseling, the key is finding a therapist that is a good match for you.
There's no right or wrong answer! You can go to therapy for just about any reason you want support or to get a better understanding of yourself.
Here are some of the common reasons teens want to get support:
All of our sessions will be done virtually through a secure platform, making them accessible from a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer.
I do not take insurance.
Individual sessions are $175 per session. Family and couples sessions are $225 per session.
Financial restrictions should never be a reason to delay getting the support you need. I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots, based on financial need.
Before we meet for our first session we'll talk on the phone for a consultation call. This is a chance to start to get to know one another, answer questions, and determine if you'd like to start working with me. Finding the right therapist is an important part of the process.
In our first session we'll talk about what therapy is, what you can expect, and how we will use our time tighter. We'll also go over some of the policies together. I'll want to get a sense of who you are and what has brought you to therapy, what you hope to get from therapy, and why you think now is the time you want to start therapy. It'll also be a time for us to make a plan for what our work together could look like.
As a teen, you are part of your family unit and as such I'll most likely speak with your family to get consent for you to meet with me as well get a brief family history. You can decide if you want to be part of that conversation or not. Throughout our time together there is a possibility I may need to speak with a parent or guardian, you'll know when that's going to occur so that it's not a surprise to you.
Individual counseling is when you work one-on-one with a therapist.
Family counseling is when more than one person from the family come to counseling together. Sometimes it may be the entire family, while other times it may be specific family members. This type of therapy is used when the entire family would like a space together to talk about family dynamics, work on family communication, or to better understand relationships amongst family members.
Couples counseling is when people in a romantic relationship come to therapy together to address issues or concerns within their relationship.
I love working with teens! Teenage years can be a time that can be challenging, confusing, overwhelming, and often difficult to navigate. It can often feel like you're experiencing things that no one else can understand. I believe having a space for teens to talk through their experiences and understand their emotions can lead them on a path to having healthier relationships with themselves and with others in their life.
Absolutely! A lot of my experiences as a therapist have been working with pre-teens and teens; however, I also have experience working with adults and families.
